This is an interesting setup that's been piquing our interest most of the week. A piñata of cold air is lurking in southern Canada, and a clipper will unlock a surge of cold air, dropping temperatures into the 40s-50s in FLORIDA early next week. That radical clash of two different air masses should be enough to spark storms. But will they become severe?<hr><h1>SETUP</h1>A parade of weaker frontal boundaries will be overtaken by the strongest one of the week. Temperatures will likely drop some 20 degrees in many locations, giving folks east of the Rockies the coldest shot of air of the season. It's a fine balance between having too much of one ingredient and not enough of another. This is where the uncertainty in this forecast lives.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 093905-1762361168975.png"><h1>WHAT'S MISSING</h1>As this powerful front drops south, it will slow down a bit. As it moves into temperatures in the 70s-80s, the forward speed will drop. The lift aspect of the front will not be quite as high as it will be further north. On the flip side, with better lift north, there is less energy to tap into, which helps power storms to the severe criteria.<h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 094216-1762361184074.png">WHAT COULD CHANGE</h1>There is still time to change the outcome. The fast-moving nature of these systems can lead to over- and underestimations of specific ingredients. A faster moving front would increase the severe risk farther south, while a better northward pull of unstable air will expand the threat north. A series of atmospheric rivers have been responsible for wet, windy, and snowy weather in the northwestern U.S over the last few weeks. Our next system is already starting to move onshore, bringing back more heavy rain and snow. Here's how much we might be in for over the next few days (above). Wednesday looks to be the window with the most widespread rain, which could lead to a renewed round of flooding. Parts of the northern Cascades could receive a foot or more of snow on the highest peaks!With multiple inches of rain on the way, the Weather Prediction Center is monitoring coastal areas at a level 1, MARGINAL, risk for excessive rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-05 095854-1762361963192.png">With such a strong trough ushering the rain onshore, it could also help organize a storm or two. Damaging winds and a brief tornado or two are possible in the afternoon, as the better ingredients line up.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762340830103.png"><h2>Timing</h2>According to the Weather Prediction Center, the next "strong landfalling atmospheric river" looks to impact the coast of southwest Oregon and northern California, with the heaviest rainfall happening overnight. The peak of this atmospheric river looks to have happened by Wednesday morning across these regions.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-05 04-05-37-1762340840272.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Winds will also be strong at times across portions of California, Oregon, and Nevada. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762341389204.png"><h1>Snow</h1>As some of that moisture makes it's way into the higher elevation mountains, it'll likely mean heavy snow for the mountains! Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Another round of records was set today across the southern plains as an area of high pressure dominates! Amarillo, Texas, saw a high of 89°, beating the old record of 85°, which was previously set in 1916. Multiple records were set across Texas and Nebraska. The warmth will continue this week, before a HUGE pattern shift comes in early next week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/record high temps -1762299377819.png"><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-04 105106-1762278692926.png">Temperatures remain above average this week for the southern plains! Temperatures will run 10-15 degrees above average.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-04 105059-1762278702391.png">As we take a look into early next week, a blast of arctic air will bring BIG CHANGES! Monday's lows will plummet into the 20s, 30s, and 40s all the way to the Gulf!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/monday's low temps-1762299738822.png">Take a look at Columbus, Ohio! This week is mild with a high of 67° on Wednesday, and on Monday, there will be a high of only 39°.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/columnn-1762299801846.png">The cooldown even gets all the way down to south Florida, dropping the daytime highs on Friday in Miami to the mid 70s! Record Heat This Week, Before Arctic Blast

Coastal areas will be dealing with intrusions of ocean water, known as coastal flooding, during the week ahead with the return of king tides!<h2>What is a "king tide?"</h2>When the gravitational pull of the sun and moon are both higher than normal, high and low tides become more pronounced, leading to flooding during high tide and potentially low water issues during the low tides.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 051621-1762088418982.png">This happens most often from the fall through the spring as the sun's gravitational pull on the earth is the strongest. Despite winter conditions in North America, the sun is actually closest to the earth in early January.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 051520-1762088418986.png"> King tides are most pronounced when the moon is at its closest point to the Earth in its orbit, which is known as perigee. This is happening at the same time as the full moon for both November and December, creating what's known as a supermoon. During these supermoon events, the moon will be about 14,000 miles closer to the Earth than normal!<h2><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot 2025-11-02 060337-1762088634156.png">November King Tides</h2>King tides will be ramping up throughout the week ahead. Note how much the tidal range grows in Charleston from now through Wednesday, increasing from about 6 feet to over 7 feet by Wednesday!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web5-1762342398833.png">Tides near Miami (Virginia Key below) will also increase this week, increasing from about 2 feet to 3 feet!<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762342479536.png">Coastal flood alerts will likely be issued as we get closer to the mid-week time-frame, so be sure to check your high tide times locally and avoid areas near the coast during those times. King Tides Return to Start the Month

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

NORTHERN PLAINS - As we head into the end of the week, an upper-level trough north of the border will usher cooler air into the northern U.S. With a couple of fronts passing through, temperatures may drop low enough to support some snow. So it’s time to brush up on our winter terminology — early winter snowstorms are here!<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/11-04 RNC-1762216937448.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Starting on Thursday, a cold front will drop into the northern Plains. This first front will bring mostly rain to the U.S., with a few flurries possible. Once the second front moves through on Friday afternoon and evening, it should be cold enough to bring snow chances to North Dakota, Minnesota, and the Great Lakes region.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-05 04-25-25-1762341950979.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>For now, models show only a couple of inches of snowfall, but that’s enough to start thinking about snow tires across the Upper Midwest. Since the system will move through quickly, it won’t allow for major snowfall totals in these areas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762341992364.png">Afternoon temperatures in larger cities like Minneapolis should stay warm enough by the end of the week that any flurries that fall will likely melt fairly quickly.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web2-1762342030555.png"> Those low temperatures will drop quickly, though. <h1>What To Expect</h1>We're taking a break from heavy precipitation in the northeast on Tuesday as we await our next system to move through by Wednesday. Forecast models have rain and snow moving in by early Wednesday morning and lasting through the evening. Temperatures may be cold enough to get some snowfall in the higher elevations.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/2025-11-05 03-59-36-1762340400131.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Most folks will see around a tenth of an inch or less in terms of rainfall. Snow will be possible in the higher elevations. Snowfall totals will be around 1"-3", with localized heavier amounts possible. There will be a few rounds of moisture, adding to accumulation totals through Saturday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web4-1762340430286.png">With a cold front moving through, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather on Wednesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web2-1762340462969.png">Widespread wind alerts remain in place through Thursday. Some airports have been experiencing delays because of the strong winds. If you have any travel plans, be sure to check for updates and delays.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2025/11/Web1-1762340496502.png">Due to some drier conditions further south, and the potential for gusty winds, several red flag warnings have been issued. Heavy rain and strong storms rolled through Texas overnight, and are lingering this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk for strong storms today. Damaging winds and hail will be possible as these storms move through. McAdoo saw a gust of 90 mph, while Colorado City saw a gust of 76 mph! As the frontal boundary works south, expect storms to ride along it. Heavy rain, gusty winds and cloud to ground lightning are all possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2023/09/TEXAS WIND REPORTS -1694864101427.jpg">Storms will move from north to south along a frontal boundary. Texas has been in drought, so the rain is much needed. Too much too quick can lead to flooding, so watch for ponding on roads and rising waters in streams, creeks and rivers.
